Two firmly rooted wooden "arms"—one red, one black—reach upward to frame a delicate high-wire ballet performed by painted metal disks. The slightest breath of air sets the piece in motion. Slowly, the composition shifts in space. It is the same work of art, yet it is also different and delightfully new. Fellow artist Marcel Duchamp called Alexander Calder’s moving sculptures "mobiles," and that is what we still call them.
