DescriptionLandscape of the four seasons: continuous from right to left, spring, summer, autumn, and winter. mountains, valleys, a river, waterfalls, trees, villages, pavilions, a temple, boats, fishermen, and travelers.Exhibition HistoryFlowers to Frost: Four Seasons in East Asian Art, The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, July 18, 2015 - July 17, 2016.
The seasons unfold in this idyllic river view inspired by Fan Qi’s hometown, Nanjing, in southeast China. From the right, pink bushes brighten the spring air. Continuing to the left, two figures take a warm, pleasant walk along a green mountain path. As foliage takes on autumn colors, peasants harvest straw and grain. Finally, bare trees and quiet houses dot the mild winter landscape.
