DescriptionRaw silk gauze ground with gold metallic threads. Nō robe (Happi-type) made over from a Maiginu type Nō robe, with design of weeping willow and long-tailed bird.Gallery Label

Onagadori, or long-tailed birds fly between the weeping cherry branches on this happi, a type of jacket designed for Nō theater. The actor wearing this robe plays the role of a tragic aristocratic man or a warrior, whose life story became a Nō plot inspiration. The side slits help the actor move gracefully during a dance. The surface design also enhances the performance, especially when the reflective gold threads catch the light as the actor moves across the stage.
