This image reflects John Alexander's time spent living in the East Texas Piney woods, with its thick, dark, snake-filled forests. Here he captures the mystical and frightening feelings of night spent alone in those woods. The title, Honkey Tonk Moon, tells us something of late night loneliness and perhaps lost chances of fast, barroom love. The medium of etching is known for its luminescence and richness in creating contrasting passages of dark and light, and Alexander takes full advantage of this technique by capturing the glowing moon framed by the dying trees.
