DescriptionA square cake plate with rounded corners and irregular proportions of pink Shino ware, heavily potted slab body decorated with a field of grasses in white against an ochre and rust ground covered with a feldspathic Shino glaze.Gallery LabelThese ceramics were donated by Mrs. George H. Bunting (born Karen Dean Bitler, 1912–1981), an avid art collector and supporter of the Nelson-Atkins. She was a good friend of Laurence Sickman (1907–1988), the first curator of the museum’s Asian art collection from 1935 to 1953 and director from 1953 to 1977. Her collection included Japanese calligraphy and a wide range of ceramics.
