DescriptionThese three small ink and watercolor paintings on paper, mounted on small canvases are studies for the Goldberg Variations. These works depict rose stems with leaves rendered in different compositions. Wet black ink and paint is applied with a brush, which gives variation to the value and texture of the media and imbues the studies with a sense of energy. These studies reveal how Ostovani approached his subject and worked out the imagery of the Goldberg Variations.
