DescriptionThis hand-colored proof with multiple marginal notations depicts a contortionist who stands on its proper right foot and calf. Its yellow shorts cover its butt on the right. The proper left leg curves to point to the left. The figure’s arms wrap around its legs while its bare torso occupies the center of the image. Its head has a mustache, wide-open black eyes, and a cap with animal ears and black electric sparks emanating from it. The setting is a fenced yard with blue sky in the background. A rope in equally contorted design hangs on the right. A string of objects including a hook and a small anvil (?) hang on the left.Provenance
