DescriptionThis key stone lithograph is printed all in black on tan paper. At the center, a man’s torso dressed in a jacket, trousers, a striped shirt, and a checked cummerbund sits on a table with bulging legs that end in points. Five balls of different rest on the table. The figure has no neck or head; flames cover the top of him, cascading over his shoulders and down his back. His proper left hand holds a head or helmet from which sprouts a bouquet of roses; an elaborately looped rope dangles below it. On the lower right, four parakeets under the table. His proper right arm ends in a metallic hand held wide open. A robe loops around the arm and hand and a spotted cloth hangs from it. In the upper left corner, butterflies and playing cards. A curtain in undulating folds in the background.Provenance
