DescriptionThis is a polychrome ōban woodblock print. It depicts a scene from the kabuki play Imoseyama onna teikin (The Husband-and-Wife Mountains: Teachings for Women). The kneeled man is identified as ryōshi Shibaroku (hunter Shibaroku) in the cartouche above him. Shibaroku wears a hanten (jacket) made of brown, checker-patterned fabric with blue, floral-patterned shoulder covers. He kneels on his right knee and extends his left leg at the entrance of his home. To his left is the light-colored wooden sliding door, and his house's interior is partially visible. The print bears four seals and inscriptions at the bottom. From left to right, they read 豊國画Toyokuni ga (illustrated by Toyokuni), 彫竹 Hori Take ([block] carved by Take), and 藤慶 Fuji Kei (abbreviated name of the publisher Fujiokaya Keijirō; dates unknown).
