DescriptionDer Falsche Wuldemar is a vertically oriented drawing featuring three figures. The “false ruler” character of the title is in the center of the composition, wearing an oversized, yellow turban topped with a long feather. This person holds the long, hanging end of their turban at the left of the composition in front of their body, which is turned that direction. There are a variety of small objects stuck in and on the turban. Another character, apparently an old man, stands at the right of the composition, behind the central figure, with his hands on that figure’s upper back. The third figure, also aged, is in the lower right corner, visible only from the chest up. He faces the left with his proper right arm raised in front of his face and his proper left arm held behind his back. This figure wears a ruff around his neck and a rust-colored, beanie-like cap with three blue bells on the top of it.Provenance
