Léonard Misonne was a leading artistic photographer from the 1890s through the 1930s. He worked in a variety of processes in his career, including the relatively permanent bromoil and carbon printing techniques. Renowned in particular for his landscape work, Misonne specialized in painterly atmospheric effects and a masterful rendering of shadow and light.
