DescriptionThe film is an animated adaptation of a masterpiece of landscape painting, Early Spring, by Guo Xi in 1072 in the Northern Song dynasty of China. Set in a loop, the film reflects the endless cycle of seasons. It begins with the image of Early Spring, which gradually transforms into each of the four seasons. The accumulated snow in early spring gives way to the pinkish blossoms of spring, the verdant foliage of summer, vibrant autumnal colors, and finally winter snowfall. The animated images that reflect the four seasons are seen in the color changes, cascading waterfall, lightning, rainfall and snowfall, all of which are attended by the sound effects such as birds’ chirping and thunder. Two images of actual buildings in China are added to the ancient mountain landscape. The Gate of Heavenly Peace to the Forbidden City of Beijing sits at the bottom of the landscape, while the Oriental Pearl Tower of Shanghai stands on the terrace in the middle of the landscape composition.Exhibition History
