DescriptionPanoramic image composed of smaller images captured at regular intervals over set period of time; the resulting overall image is of snow covered evergreens at night with buidlings near bus stops which line the street below.Exhibition History
Surveillance. The Nelson Atkins Museum of Art, Kansas City, MO. September 16, 2016 – January 29, 2017, no cat.
Jules Spinatsch uses surveillance cameras “to work on par with security forces [and] subversively turn their technology against themselves.” This image captures the highly secured area around the 2003 World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. Spinatsch used three remote controlled cameras to simultaneously photograph the restricted grounds. Over a three-hour period, from 6:35 to 9:30 a.m., these programmed cameras made 2,176 single images. He then digitally stitched the images together, creating a panorama that includes fencing, guard huts and security personnel. His unusual method was inspired by the hourly updates of snow conditions available on the Davos website, referencing its usual identity as a ski resort.
