Rotation 26. The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Kansas City, MO, March 29, 2019- August 25, 2019, no cat.
Jerry N. Uelsmann is one of photography’s greatest stylistic innovators—a classically trained photographer who challenged and extended the field’s understanding of the medium. By creating images from multiple negatives, Uelsmann gave implicit permission to artists that they could make photographs, in addition to simply taking them. His mysterious and allegorical images prove that both reality and the realm of the imagination are fair game for photographic artists.
