DescriptionA large, black, circular-format painting (a tondo), with arc of bright red at upper left edge. Surface is heavily textured, with embedded glass chips, glitter and gold leaf. Close examination reveals areas of stained canvas in subtle hues of green, blue, red, etc. Rich and complex coloristically and texturally.Gallery LabelThis painting, Cosmos Edge, with its circular form, black and red color, texture and large size, expresses the ancient Daoist concept of yin-yang—the complementary forces of creation/destruction, female/male, and intuition/reason that underlies the ever changing universe. Jim Leedy is a long-time professor at the Kansas City Art Institute and co-founder and owner of the Leedy- Voulkos Art Center in Kansas City. He is recognized primarily as a groundbreaking artist in the field of ceramic sculpture.
