DescriptionThe work consists of 672 white, seven-sided polyhedrons placed in a repetitive pattern to create a grid with equally proportioned spaces between the forms. The fluorescent orange plane of each angled shape reflects off the surface of the white wall, producing a glowing atmosphere of colored light. Polyhedrons are made of painted old-growth Douglas fir/pine and are installed using magnets.Gallery Label
Luis Tomasello's Chromoplastic Mural exists in the realm between painting and sculpture. In fact, the combination inspired its title with "chromo" meaning colored and "plastic" meaning sculptural. To create this installation, Tomasello placed 672 identical gemoetric forms in a pattern to create a grid. The fluorescent orange angled plane of each form reflects off the white wall to produce a glow of color. Tomasello's piece invites you to move past and notice the changes in light, color, and geometric shapes.
