DescriptionImage of river with lines of fishermen standing in water down each bank. People are also lined up on the dam in the background; there is a brown building on the right bank.Gallery LabelDozens of hopeful anglers stand shoulder to shoulder, casting their lines for opening day of trout fishing season in Bennett Springs, Missouri. Kansas City-based photographer Mike Sinclair found the crowd fascinating. As he recalled: “This event always seemed crazy . . . the opposite of what trout fishing was about, a peaceful, solitary experience . . . But I realized it was not as much about fishing as about tradition. Almost everyone had a story of how their father had brought them or their family here and hadn’t missed an opening day in 10 years . . . all the other people only made it better.”
