DescriptionImage of two hunters, one sitting with his rifle resting against his knee, the other standing and holding his rifle. They are both outside; a tree and a basket lie before them; the background is some sort of brick structure.Gallery LabelInfluenced by his love of Dutch genre painting, which featured scenes of everyday life, Baron Humbert de Molard posed his friends and employees enacting countryside activities like hunting. A sophisticated amateur from a wealthy family, he was free to explore his personal passions and used his château in Normandy, France, to stage his photographs.
Humbert de Molard was one of the first French photographers to use the calotype process—a printing technique developed in England that creates a positive print from a paper negative.
