DescriptionThis color image is a view of trees in a nursery, taken from below, shown in various stages of foliation. Meticulously detailed, individual images are brought together digitally, and arranged in a gridlike pattern against a stark white background so that they appear as abstract patterns of shape and form.Exhibition History

Andreas Gefeller uses the camera as a tool of truth and deception, challenging the boundaries of perception. To create this work of art, he pointed his camera upward, taking hundreds of images as he walked through a tree nursery. He digitally combined these captures of young trees in various stages of foliation. The final photograph is an impossible view in which we interpret the white of the cloudy sky as snow-covered ground. Gefeller produces an image that fluctuates between detailed representation and complete abstraction.
