On mount verso, center, white label, in black type: "HAIL STONES, / Which fell in the great storm of June 20, 1870, at / NORTHAMPTON, MASS., where they were found the / largest of any place on the line of the Storm. Hail / Stones were common which measured form 9 to 12 / inches in circumference, and one measured 10 inches / long, 6 inches wide, and 4 inches thick. This group / represents only the average size, the largest one meas- / uring when taken from the ground, 9 1/8 inches in cir- / cumference."
