DescriptionVintage print.Exhibition HistoryRotation 23. The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Kansas City, MO, January 18 – May 28, 2017, no cat.
Doris Ulmann took up photography in her early thirties, studying with the noted artistic photographer Clarence White. In his teaching, White emphasized the graphic or geometric structure of every image. This early work reveals the essence of that instruction: an inclination to view the familiar world in quasi-abstract terms.
