DescriptionThe stand rises from three snake feet which are blind dovetailed to the shaft and reinforced with the original iron spider. The shaft has an urn-shaped base supporting a ring-turned column. Two cleats are screwed to the round, lipped top. The cleats are hinged to a box ("birdcage") which fits over the top of the shaft. The box is held in place by a collar and a wedge fitted through slots in the collar and a mortise in the shaft. Four small turned balusters (one insered upside down) join the top and bottom of the box. The original brass spring latch is screwed to the underside of the top.
