DescriptionOne of a pair of cast silver candelabra, each with central stem supporting five branches with sconces for candles. There is a central branch with four additional branches evenly spaced around it. Beginning at the base, raised abstracted organic ornament evolves into the branches that support the sconces, or candle holders, and then decorate the bobeches, or drip pans, flaring from the sconce. On each candelabrum the branches are individual and unique although made up a slightly geometric twisting or whiplash line.Gallery LabelVinzenz Mayer’s Söhne, manufacturer

Pair of Candelabra, about 1900
Silver
The branches of these candelabra twist and bend, leading the eye around the silver forms in an endless rhythm. Made by the Austrian imperial jewelers Vinzenz Mayer’s Söhne, this pair of candelabra reflects the merging of the organic nature of the French Art Nouveau style with the geometric nature of the Viennese Art Nouveau, or Vienna Secession, style.
