DescriptionThis engraving was made from a drawing by José del Castillo after a mural by Luca Giordano. In front of a bordered, fringed textile hanging, a naked child at right grasps a snake in each hand; the child holds each snake below its head. At left, a seated woman seen from the rear holds a key-like instrument over a glowing basin. She is regarded by two other women beyond. Above the head of the woman at right rear is a crescent moon.
