Gallery LabelThomas Scofield Handforth’s Rodeo describes a popular form of Southwestern entertainment based on competition between skilled cowboys. Handforth enlivens the etching with several engaging scenes, including a daring jinete de toro (bull rider). Many festive activities also take place outside the rodeo ring. Amid rolling hills covered in cacti and agave, men, women, children and even a dog take in the spectacle and enjoy food, drink and music.
