The exact meaning of the subject is unclear, but it was clearly a good excuse for the artist to represent the male nude from various angles. The elegant contours of the figures correspond to the undulating rhythms of the trees, adding a feeling of mystery to the scene. Note the delicate and refined lines of the artist’s engraving technique.
