Description3 vertical bands: left, extending to center, pale gray and buff strokes in all-over irregular pattern above black lines on gray ground, circular forms, upper left and center right; right of center, pale blue-gray, black, and buff curving strokes on gray ground, forming half-circle; right, narrow zone of circling pale-gray lines on blue ground connecting with half-circle in band at its left, forming whirlpool.Gallery LabelThis artist produces prints using a variety of relief printing and etching processes. Her images are marked by complex iconography and personal symbols; many, such as leaves, flowers, hands, heads, outlines of torsos and water vortexes, are based on her observations of nature. Erskine prints over the same surface time and again, building up layers of color, pattern and symbolism. The title, Labyrinth I, refers to both the rich complexity and color density of the print as well as to the actual process of arriving at the final image.
