Purchased from Schwartz by The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Kansas City, MO, 1948.
NOTES:
[1] Kurt L. Schwartz was an antiquarian book dealer. He lived and worked in Vienna from 1909-1938; in London from 1938-1940; in Shanghai from 1940-1947; and in Los Angeles from 1947 until his death. Schwartz published many sales catalogues, and, along with Jake Zeitlin, he organized a number of art exhibitions. See Donald C. Dickinson, Dictionary of American Antiquarian Bookdealers (Westport, CT: Greenwood Press, 1998), 200. It is not clear if he owned the watercolor personally or as a dealer.
