Gallery LabelWenzel Hollar was born in Prague, and is well known for his topographical views as well as mythological scenes like this one. This print is one of five illustrations to Homer's ancient Greek epic poem The Iliad, published in London in 1660. It shows Agamemnon, King of Mycenae and leader of the Greeks in the siege of Troy, reviewing the troops of his allies, including Ajax the Great from Telamon and Ajax the Less from Locri. The latter, on the left, is appropriately smaller than Ajax the Great.
