DescriptionBobbin-made part lace of the Brussels type (i.e. made in separate pieces and hooked or sewn together). High quality lace worked in whole and half stitch with raised "veins", a variety of decorative fillings and an irregular ground of pico-decorated bars. Attached to the original upper finished edge is a narrow bobbin-made heading. Repeating design of large, vertical motifs composed of feather-topped [illeg.] with draped curtains enclosing an imperial crown above a large eagle holding a bird in its claws. The curtains are held back by a pair of winged cherubs holding imperial crowns. The chain and lamb of the Order of the Golden Fleece and the initials "AC" or CA" are between main motifs.
