How do you define light?
Light: Electromagnetic radiation whose wavelengths range from 3,900 to 7,700 angstroms and that can be perceived by the unaided normal human eye. Light: The guiding spirit or divine presence in each person; spiritual awareness, illumination.
These two definitions-one physical, the other spiritual-are perfectly harmonized in this painting. Subtle vertical and horizontal axes intersect, dividing the canvas into four equal parts. Sixteen points of light are arranged in near symmetry and appear as reflections of one another. The effect is one of great peace. Light in the darkness. As above, so below.
