DescriptionAngular barrel shape with sides tapering down toward center and up from foot; five sets of double parallel ribs encircling body; cylindrical spout with ribs and floral head on one side attached to body with straight-ribbed support rectangular in section; ribbed inverted-L shaped handle opposite; slightly recessed top with trefoil opening; slightly recessed foot; trefoil all reibs, rim and head of spout gilded; body and spout painted with polychrome enamel floral sprays.Exhibition HistoryLuxury and Passion: Inventing French Porcelain, The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Kansas City, Missouri, August 13 2022–August 12 2024, no cat.
Only made for about four years, this elaborately decorated can came in two sizes. This example is the larger size. The can is fully functional, allowing its owner to show off by using a precious, expensive object for a mundane chore.
