DescriptionMan and woman seated on a high-back bench. Black dog with disquieting teeth separates them while a white dog of more amiable nature is below. Lady with folded arms, sits in paneled crinoline skirt, tight-fitting bodice with black stomacher, spotted elbow-length sleeves ending in black cuffs. Man, in wig of substantial ringlets, wears white coat over black waistcoat with knot fasteners. Ends of bench are rope-twisted in black and white, the back pierced by a desgin of four hearts. Top rail is in relief, modeled to include six black masks that run the gamut of moods from spitefulness, through surprise, to laughter.
