Gallery LabelThe temple of Jupiter at Olympus in Greece was one of the eight wonders of the ancient world. Long since destroyed, it was reconstructed from the artist’s imagination. In the foreground, a victorious athlete is crowned, a reference to the Olympic games, which originated at Olympus in ancient times. More athletes can be seen to the right.
