Gallery Label
This drawing is notable for the rich contrasts of light and shade, which give vitality to the scene. Van der Ulft spent some time in Italy, where such strong contrasts are more often found than in the grayer weather of his native Holland. So in this respect the drawing has a somewhat Italianate quality.
